Ingredients

  • Fresh strawberries gives the pink base and fruity kick.
  • Matcha powder go for ceremonial grade for that smooth, vibrant green (culinary works if that’s what you’ve got).
  • Milk of choice dairy, almond, oat, or coconut all work. Each gives a slightly different flavor.
  • Sweetener (optional) honey, maple syrup, sugar, or none if your strawberries are sweet enough.
  • Ice cubes key for creating those perfect separated layers.

Instructions

Make the Strawberry Purée

  • Blend fresh strawberries with a little sugar or honey until smooth.
  • Chill in the fridge for 10–15 minutes.

Prepare the Matcha

  • Sift 1–2 teaspoons of matcha powder into a bowl.
  • Add 2–3 tablespoons of hot (not boiling) water.
  • Whisk in a “W” motion with a bamboo whisk (or a handheld frother) until foamy.

Layer the Drink

  • Fill a tall glass with ice cubes.
  • Spoon in strawberry purée at the bottom.
  • Slowly pour in your milk of choice.
  • Gently pour the frothy matcha over the back of a spoon so it floats on top.

Sip or Stir

  • Some people love the layers, others stir for a blended flavor.
  • Your drink, your rules.

Notes

Tips for the Perfect Layered Look

  • Use a clear glass → that ombré deserves to be seen.
  • Pour slowly (especially the matcha) so it sits on top.
  • Keep the strawberry purée chilled so it stays thick and doesn’t mix too quickly.
  • Add extra ice—it acts as a barrier between layers.

Variations to Try

  • Vegan version → oat or almond milk works beautifully with strawberries.
  • Creamy Dessert-Style → top with whipped cream or coconut cream.
  • Frozen berries → blend if strawberries aren’t in season.
  • Other fruit twists → try raspberry matcha latte or even mango matcha for tropical vibes.

Serving Ideas & Pairings

  • Perfect for summer brunches, park picnics, or as an afternoon refresher.
  • Pairs well with light pastries like croissants, chia pudding, or a fruit tart.
  • Bonus: it looks so good, it basically becomes part of your table décor.
